Last Wednesday Gina Kolata wrote a front-page story for the New York Times about a revolution in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. It threatens to sharply limit the lucrative angiography/stent implantation bread-and-butter practice of today's invasive cardiologists. The new procedure's called "Multi-detector CT scanning." It's faster (taking seconds, and allowing the patient to leave immediately, as opposed to hours on the angiography table, the need for sedation, and an overnight stay ... (more)
